About

I discovered my passion for accounting while earning my BS in Business from Indiana University. After relocating to North Carolina, I earned my CPA license while working in public accounting, where I gained experience in audits, financial statement preparation, tax preparation and research, and client service, ultimately advancing to Tax Manager.I later moved into nonprofit financial leadership, serving in senior finance roles including CFO, with responsibility for accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, audit coordination, board reporting, and process improvement. I also maintained a client-service focus by supporting accounting services for other nonprofit organizations. To strengthen my use of accounting and finance in business decision-making, I completed my MBA from Wake Forest University during this time.I then broadened my hands-on month-end close experience through contract accounting engagements in higher education and within an international for-profit company handling high transaction volumes. These engagements refined my ability to step into team environments with established accounting processes, work through detailed reconciliations, and support an accurate, timely close.Throughout my career, I have gained audit experience from three perspectives: performing audit work in public accounting, managing audit coordination from the client side, and now helping organizations prepare schedules and respond to auditor requests through contract accounting support. Now, I make my experience available to tax-exempt organizations and for-profit businesses through JM Boyd CPA, PLLC. I take the time to understand how the organization operates so that accounting support is structured around specific business needs.

Accounting Stabilization & Cleanup

Current, reliable accounting records support daily decisions, responsible use of resources, and informed responses to the organization’s operating environment. When records have fallen behind, JM Boyd CPA, PLLC provides focused support to bring them current—the necessary first step toward a reliable month-end close, audit readiness, and informed decisions about special projects. • Reconciling general ledger accounts and related subledgers

  • Researching and resolving discrepancies, unsupported balances, and reconciling items

Support may include:

  • Reviewing any existing standard operating procedures, written instructions, or supporting documentation related to the identified accounting process

  • Performing the process using available instructions and information obtained from organization staff, while noting where additional documentation or clarification is needed

  • Drafting or refining the standard operating procedure as clear, step-by-step instructions so someone with the appropriate level of expertise can complete the process from beginning to end without relying on undocumented institutional knowledge

  • Recommending practical improvements to support consistent and timely completion

Each engagement is scoped according to the breadth of the work and the information and documentation available.Remote support is available when the organization’s systems, documentation, and communication processes allow the work to be completed efficiently and securely.
